The first Amazon Kindle in color is finally here - and with it comes an AI-powered Scribe

Amazon has now officially announced the new Kindle Colorsoft, the first Kindle with a full-color display, along with three other new Kindle products, after a previously leaked press release revealed the news. The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition was announced ahead of time in a Spanish-language announcement via an official Amazon blog (spotted by The Verge). But the full release has now been released – and our first look calls it “a significant step forward for e-reader technology.”

The Kindle Colorsoft was announced alongside a new AI-powered Kindle Scribe, an updated Kindle Paperwhite and an updated entry-level Kindle.

Firstly, this Kindle Colorsoft News. Amazon claims it offers “rich, paper-like colors” in standard or vibrant styles, a “custom oxide support layer,” new algorithms to enhance color and increase brightness, eight weeks of battery life and fast page turning, and the high contrast that Kindle users love now expect.

It’s available to pre-order now for $279.99 / £269.99 (around AU$420). The first units will ship on October 30th.

The leaked release (which has now been confirmed as official) also states that you can “check your library or Kindle store for color covers, view photos and images of books in color, or highlight text if you can.” Easily search for later thanks to the custom Colorsoft display, new light guide and nitride LEDs. You can also “zoom in on images without worrying about pixelation.”

As mentioned, the Kindle Colorsoft also offers eight weeks of battery life with wireless charging support and is waterproof.

AI is coming to Kindles

The new Kindle Scribemeanwhile, updates the design of Amazon’s writing tablet with new white borders, a 300ppi display with a “smooth, paper-like texture,” and all-new AI tools. You can read our first impressions in our practical review of the Amazon Kindle Scribe 2024.

The new Scribe’s AI features include condensing “pages upon pages” of notes into bullet points and converting handwritten notes into fonts, the latter feature currently only available in English.

The Kindle Scribe also features the new Active Canvas feature, which keeps book notes in place when you change the layout or font size. The e-reader comes with the Premium Pen stylus, which is equipped with a “soft-tip eraser”. Pricing for the Kindle Scribe starts at $399.99 / £359.99 (around AU$600), with the first units shipping on December 4th.

The new 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite is also the “fastest Kindle ever,” according to Amazon, with 25% faster page turning and the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle display. It will be the thinnest Paperwhite model yet and features three-month battery life and waterproofing.

The new Kindle Paperwhite will be available for $159.99 / £159.99 (around AU$240) for 16GB of storage in Raspberry, Jade Green and Charcoal color options, with the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition priced at $199.99 / 179 £.99 (around AU$300). for 32 GB of storage space in Raspberry Metallic, Jade Green Metallic and Charcoal Metallic color options.

Amazon has also released a new one Basic model Kindlewhich features a 300ppi display with a 25% brighter frontlight at maximum setting, which is the same as the brightness of the Kindle Paperwhite. It comes in the new Matcha color and has a battery life of “weeks.” Prices start at $109.99 / £104.99 (around AU$165).

If you’re looking for a kid-friendly e-reader, two new Kindle Kids models are also on sale – a new entry-level Kindle Kids ($129.99 / £114.99) and a new Kindle Paperwhite Kids (179, $99 / £159.99). As GoodEReader previously reported, British retailer John Lewis began listing the new Kindle 12 Gen Kids Edition with a 6-inch display, higher contrast ratio, anti-glare display, and faster page turning than its predecessor.

The two Kindle Kids e-readers come with a free cover that features either an original design or a branded design inspired by popular children’s books.
