Another chilly night before the warming trend begins – Chris

Happy Tuesday evening everyone! It was a cool day with sunshine and highs in the 40s and 50s, but morning lows ended the growing season for many as the MSP dropped to 35, with 20 for the outskirts of the metro area and most of Minnesota.

This cold snap is fading quickly as southwesterly winds return on Wednesday, which will push temperatures higher. It will be a sunny day and high temperatures will climb back into the 60s. As the southwesterly current becomes stronger, temperatures respond accordingly. Thursday will be mostly sunny with high temperatures back in the low and mid 70s. There will be a real increase in temperatures on Friday as winds increase and highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. This combination of warm temperatures, gusty winds and very low humidity will likely lead to fire weather concerns. Fire weather warnings have already been issued for parts of western Minnesota. Stay tuned for red flag warnings in the coming days.

A cool front is sweeping across the state this weekend. There will be some moisture, but the atmospheric compulsion to tap into it is… for lunch. The same song continues, with the chance of rain appearing slim at best, but the pattern beyond that is at least trying to become more active. The key word there is TRY. If there is anything at all, it’s definitely…that’s above average. That seems to be a theme. Will it continue like this until winter? As always, leave the concern between then and now to the Minnesota Weather Department. We’ll keep you updated daily on how things are developing.

Enjoy the night!
