The Anna Maria Island restaurant is distributing free meals to those affected by the hurricanes

ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. (WWSB) – As Anna Maria Island residents work on the cleanup, local businesses are committed to keeping them healthy and motivated.

Grub Tropical BBQ in Anna Maria serves free hot lunch daily from noon to 3 p.m. Restaurant staff tell ABC 7 they have been providing this food for free since Helene hit the area a few weeks ago.

According to the staff at gRub Tropical BBQ, they will continue to provide this service for as long as it is needed.

“This brief moment of hope keeps us together, keeps me together and helps our neighborhood,” said Mark Howard, a Holmes Beach resident. “I asked for five meals to distribute to my neighbors. He said, ‘Take her, take her, free!’ He didn’t charge for that, he was just a helper in the community and he was its lifeblood.”

“There’s no power, so we kind of depend on what we can get from others, and everyone has done so great,” Howard said.
