Zach Edey nearly finishes with a double-double in his return to Indiana

Zach Edey was a double-double machine in his final two seasons at Purdue. That almost carried over to the NBA on Monday when the Memphis Grizzlies played against the Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis.

Upon his return to Indiana, Edey posted his best performance of the preseason so far. The 7-foot-4 center finished the night with 23 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. Memphis defeated Indiana 120-116 to improve to 3-1 on the preseason.

Edey started each of the Grizzlies’ first three preseason games but came off the bench on Monday. Judging by his performance, it didn’t seem to bother him that much.

It had to feel good for Edey to have such a good showing in Indiana. Although he comes from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the former boilermaker developed into a two-time national player of the year within the country’s borders. There were also many Purdue fans who attended Monday’s game to see him in action.

This includes his former coach Matt Painter.

Yes, it’s still just preseason action, but Edey is already silencing some of the critics who questioned Memphis’ decision to take him with the No. 9 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Edey and the Grizzlies only have one more preseason game left before beginning the regular season. Memphis plays the Miami Heat on Friday, October 18th. Then the season officially begins on Wednesday, October 23rd when the Grizzlies play the Utah Jazz.
