How to watch the 2024 United States Grand Prix: F1 live stream, TV schedule and start time

Almost a month after Formula 1 left Singapore, the World Championship returns with a bang this weekend at COTA. As always, the entire 2024 United States Grand Prix will be televised and live streamed, including Saturday’s sprint race.

British spectators will be able to follow all the action on the circuit live Sky Sports F1 — However, you may need to adjust your meal plans for the weekend – cars roll out of the pitlane at 6:30pm BST on Friday for FP1, followed by sprint qualifying at 10:30pm.

On Saturday the sprint race takes place at 7 p.m. and the Grand Prix qualifying at 11 p.m., while Sunday is reserved for the US Grand Prix, which is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Channel 4 also offers the weekend’s highlights on terrestrial television, which racing fans can watch without a subscription.

Since its first appearance on the F1 calendar in 2012, COTA has offered a unique challenge for drivers and teams, with over 131 feet of elevation gain and a wide variety of corner sequences. From mile-long DRS-enabled straights to high-G sectors similar to Suzuka’s famous ‘Esses’, COTA challenges almost every aspect of a modern Formula 1 car. Therefore, the US GP is a regular contender for the “Race of the Year”.

After Lando Norris’ victory in Singapore, McLaren comes to Austin with a lead of 41 points in the constructors’ championship. But with Max Verstappen and Red Bull back on form, Ferrari hot on their heels and Mercedes also a contender, it’s possible we’ll see another four-way battle for victory throughout the race weekend.

High-G corners and high-speed straights – COTA has it all

Grand Prix photo

The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is widely known for its challenging topography, but at its core it is actually a selection of some of the world’s greatest racing circuits.

After the steep climb up to Turn 1, drivers will turn their attention to the sequence of high-speed and Suzuka-like corners that make up the majority of Sector 1. Later in Sector 3, the drivers reach another technical section, comparable to the series of stadium corners in Hockenheim. Turns 13 to 18 in particular offer a risky but rewarding opportunity for overtaking.

In total, COTA measures 3.41 miles in length and hosts two DRS zones, located on both pit road and the 0.73-mile backstretch. At the end of each corner are tight hairpins – similar to those in Shanghai – that often tempt drivers to brake later than their rival in front of them in order to move up the starting order.

The track was also completely resurfaced ahead of the 2024 visit after MotoGP riders complained that the track was too bumpy. It is currently unknown what impact this will have on the cars or tire strategy on race day – making it all the more important to achieve clear results in the only free practice session on Friday.

What’s the weather like in Austin this weekend?

The forecast for the 2024 United States Grand Prix is expected to be completely dry, with an average temperature of 29°C over the weekend.

The sky is expected to be cloudy during free practice and sprint qualifying on Friday, giving way to bright sunshine during the sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday – ideal conditions for the race.

Drier weather is forecast for Sunday’s Grand Prix, with a 20% chance of rain, winds of 8mph and temperatures of up to 30C.
