How to watch today's big DJI drone launch

DJI may have just launched the DJI Mini 4K, which we call the best entry-level budget drone, but it’s already set to make its next announcement – which you can watch today.

The Chase the View event teaser doesn’t specifically say it’s a drone, but the title and image suggest it’s a new flying camera. More importantly, we’ve recently seen several leaks regarding a DJI Air 3S drone, so it’s very likely that the mid-range drone will officially land today.

DJI’s Air series sits between the smaller Mini series and the higher-end Mavic series – and in many ways it’s traditionally the sweet spot for most people. The DJI Air 3 launched in July 2023, so it’s not exactly an old model – which is probably why DJI is releasing an “S” model rather than a DJI Air 4.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Air 3S, when we see it today, isn’t a potentially exciting model for aerial photographers and videographers. Recent leaks suggest it could launch with a new tracking accessory that would allow the drone to follow you without you having to hold a bulky controller.

So if you’re interested in drones, aerial photography or impressive gadgets, it’s worth attending DJI’s launch today…

Here’s how you can watch today’s DJI launch

The best way to watch the DJI Chase the View event is on the DJI YouTube channel. The livestream begins on Tuesday, October 15th at 9:00am ET / 2:00pm BST / 11:00pm AEST and shouldn’t last much longer than 10-15 minutes if previous DJI launches are any guide.

What can we expect from today’s DJI launch?

Recent leaks suggest that the DJI event will almost certainly be dedicated to the DJI Air 3S – but that may not be the only new product we see.

The most interesting feature of the DJI Air 3S may actually be the leaked RC Track controller. The small handheld transmitter that could be a replacement for clattering controllers if you just want the drone to follow you on bike rides, runs, and more.

That means the launch of the Air 3S could also be of interest to existing DJI owners, as there are hints that the RC Track could potentially one day be compatible with other models like the Mini 4 Pro.

If you’re primarily interested in the Air 3S, other leaks and rumors suggest that lidar technology improves obstacle avoidance accuracy and also increases internal storage to a generous 42GB (up from 8GB on the Air 3).

We also expect the Air 3S’s main camera to move to a larger 1-inch sensor to improve dynamic range and low-light performance, although the telephoto camera is expected to retain the same 1/1.3-inch sensor as before becomes ).
