Introducing TuniTuni to Malaysia: Korea’s premier storytelling game studio is now open in Kuala Lumpur

Pix’s recurring payments feature is expected to be launched by the Brazilian Central Bank in mid-2025, and EBANX is the first player in cross-border payments to already provide its global merchants with the documentation to begin the integration

CURITIBA, Brazil, Oct. 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Brazil’s Pix, the second most used instant payment method in the world, will have a recurring transaction feature, Pix Automático (Automatic Pix in Free Translation), scheduled to be launched by the Central Bank of Brazil next year, on June 16th. EBANX, a global technology company specializing in payment services in emerging markets in Latin America, Africa and Asia, is taking the lead and is ready to start integrating global merchants with this new Pix feature.

Starting this month, EBANX traders can access the technical documentation required to integrate the EBANX API for Pix Automático. EBANX’s partners can begin backend development and will also have access to a simulated environment that will allow them to thoroughly test their integrations and ensure they are ready by June next year, when the central bank will release Pix Automático. “By partnering with EBANX, merchants can secure their competitive advantage in the market, be ready from day one to offer Pix Automático,” says Fabio ScopetaChief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) at EBANX.

The new Pix feature will significantly improve recurring payments in Brazil and have a positive impact on Latin America’s largest digital commerce market: “This solution streamlines billing processes and subscription payments, reducing friction and increasing payment efficiency for users and businesses.“Scopeta highlights: Pix Automático can improve customer satisfaction by providing more control and flexibility, resulting in higher retention rates and fewer missed payments as they are scheduled.

Starting in June 2025, Pix users will be able to set up Pix Automático for future transactions without additional interaction by scanning a QR code or providing their banking details. Another option is to pay an invoice via QR code and then activate Pix Automático to simplify recurring transactions. After the payer is authorized, the amounts will be debited from his account at the frequency specified in the payment instruction.

For retailers, this represents an opportunity to increase sales and attract more customers. According to internal information from EBANX, which has been working with Pix since its launch in 2020, companies that accept the instant payment method in digital commerce have seen a 16% increase in sales and a 25% growth in the number of customers. “We remain attentive to how Pix Automático will impact the market and consumers, especially since one in five Pix users have already done so with EBANX.” indicates the CPTO.

The future of Pix

Since there are no fees for the payer, Pix Automático is a new step in the process of financial and digital integration promoted by the instant payment method, which, according to the Central Bank, has integrated 71.5 million users into the financial system in the first two years of operation of Brazil. Pix has also helped connect these consumers with global and local businesses. In the last two years, P2B (person-to-business) transactions have almost doubled their share of monthly Pix transactions, increasing from 22% to 40%.

This landscape could change even more in 2025. In addition to bill payments such as electricity, water and rent, Brazilians are also expected to use Pix Automático for recurring payments in digital, subscription-based business models, which could increase the number of these P2B transactions. “We are seeing a boom in recurring payments globally in segments such as streaming services, SaaS and digital media, and in Brazil these industries could benefit from the launch of Pix Automático“, analyzes the CPTO at EBANX.

Further innovations in Pix are expected to further increase the success of the system, including mobile proximity payments, installment payments, for foreign accounts and offline consumer payments. According to EBANX, 95% of people who made their first purchase in one of the fintech’s partner online shops paid for it with Pix. “Our goal is to always be associated with pioneering achievements in the industry and a leadership role in the Brazilian payments landscape, to offer the best solutions for our dealers and their customers,” says Scopeta.
