Free College Application Day starts tomorrow!

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – For high school seniors looking to further their education or someone who just wants to see if they can go to college, Colorado State is offering a way to reduce the cost of applying to college .

Colorado’s free application day begins tomorrow and runs through Thursday, but the deadlines have been extended slightly for Colorado Mesa University.

“We are actually running a free application period this entire week,” said Whitney Bonner, CMU’s director of admissions. “Students can apply for free starting today and actually until Sunday, October 20th.”

D51 high school students have successfully used the program in the past. Last year they collectively saved enough money to be able to afford a new car.

Cheri Taylor, director of career and college readiness for Mesa County School District 51, explains.

“Last year, 640 students applied in our district alone…,” Taylor said. “Out of those 640 kids, they submitted 1,331 applications that we checked at every single university because they all have different fees… we crunched all the numbers and in fact our kids alone saved $53,240 last year.”
