Adobe is bringing AI video generation to Premiere Pro, with a little catch

As AI technology advances, it becomes more and more successful at creating realistic-looking videos. For a while, these tools were only available to enthusiasts, but they’re slowly becoming something everyone can use. Now Adobe has brought AI video generation to the public in a big way, even if you won’t use it to shoot entire films.

As announced in two separate posts on the Adobe blog, you can now use AI to generate videos in a variety of ways. The first blog post, titled “Generative Extend in Premiere Pro,” reveals that Adobe’s professional video editing software can now use AI to extend the length of a clip.

It can only add two seconds to your video, so you don’t need to use this tool to create a new scene. However, this is a good way to make sure your clips end the way you want. You should find this feature in the Premier Pro Beta branch that is currently available to users.

The second blog post, titled “Generate Video (beta) on Firefly Web App,” shows what you can do with the online version of Adobe’s AI generator. Firefly now allows you to generate videos by either using a text-based prompt or uploading an image to make it work. Whichever option you choose, Adobe limits the length of your video to five seconds, making it best for creating short clips rather than full videos.

If you want to create videos with AI but Adobe’s limitations are a little too strict for you, try another tool. For example, one of our authors created a social media video using an AI text-to-video tool and documented what happened.
