“I am this mysterious enigma bird who has broken free from the uncanny…” Another trippy, enchanting animated music video to enjoy as part of our short film collection. That’s another fun discovery! Made by an animator from Montreal for a band from Montreal called Nap eyesthis super weird, super fun music video is worth a look. “Dr. Cool“, as he calls himself, created this hand-drawn music video for the Nap Eyes song”Dark Mystery Enigma Bird“from their new album, which is released this month. It begins with a group of horses going for a joyride when the truck they are in rolls down a hill and drives them into and around the mountains. As is usual with these music videos, all sorts of strange things happen. “I should have made it so that the horses roll down the hill in the last scene, but at some point you just have to stop working on the video!” I love it. I’m always a fan of these types of crazy and strange music videos where the animation goes wherever it wants. The music is really cool too.

Thanks to Vimeo Staff Picks for the tip about this short film/music video’s online debut. Here is the fun full introduction to the video via Vimeo: “For this video I tried to focus on the feeling of the summer sun shining into your eyes! I wanted it to seem particularly hot that day, like t-shirt and shorts weather. I also wanted to showcase my favorite food, dry yellow hay, but not too much, although I like to animate birds. Nap Eyes’ Dark Mystery Enigma Bird animated short film is directed by the Canadian animator.Doctor Cool“aka Jordan Minkoff based in Montreal – you can see more of his work on his Vimeo, check out his linktree, or follow him on IG @jordzigram. This video was created thanks to the MVP Project, a joint initiative between RBCxMusic and the Prism Prize. The song comes from the new Nap Eyes album “The Neon Gate”, which is released this month (more information here). Full credits and video details can be found on Vimeo.
