Flack Broadcasting – NYS DMV reports a slight decrease in citations for underage concertgoers attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has examined data indicating a continued downward trend in citations for underage concertgoers who attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages with fake IDs during summer shows.

The annual enforcement operation, conducted jointly with the State Liquor Authority and local law enforcement, aims to deter underage drinking and driving at summer concerts and other places where young people gather throughout New York State , looking for fake IDs.

The enforcement action ended on September 29th. This year, 307 people were taken to court and 349 fake IDs were confiscated.

A year ago, 312 concertgoers received citations and 389 fake licenses were seized. More than 550 people were charged in 2022.

“We are pleased to say that these numbers have declined in recent years,” said DMV Commissioner Mark JF Schroeder, who also chairs the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. “We hope the message is heard that summer concerts should be enjoyed without compromising health and safety.”

In the Central New York region, 91 citations have been issued and 96 fake IDs have been seized this year.
