USF Tampa, Sarasota now open; The St. Pete campus opens Tuesday

Faculty members are urged to be patient with students as academic life slowly returns to normal.

The University of South Florida (USF) has reopened two of its campus locations and will open its remaining location on Tuesday.

USF Tampa and Sarasota reopened Monday after being closed since last week because of Hurricane Milton. USF St. Pete will reopen Tuesday.

Some limited facilities remains closed.

While the Tampa and Sarasota locations are open, Monday’s classes will be asynchronous, meaning no in-person classes. Students will receive assignments from their teachers but are not required to complete them on Monday.

Classes will resume at all locations on Tuesday.

Although classes are resuming, USF is offering flexibility to students affected by the storm, offering both in-person classes and online. Faculty members were urged to show patience with students affected by the storm who may have left the region to evacuate, and to allow flexibility in completing their duties.

Business operations have resumed remotely, with only essential employees reporting to open facilities. Employees who do not have electricity at home and need a workspace can also do so in an open facility.

Normal business operations will resume on Tuesday at all campuses with a hybrid approach to provide flexibility for faculty and staff. Employees may, in consultation with their manager, choose to work remotely throughout the week if their position allows.

USF expects in-person events for faculty and students to resume as usual on Monday, October 21st.

USF St. Pete’s residence halls will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the exception of Pelican Hall (RHO), which will remain closed until further notice.
