A new tropical disturbance is emerging in the Atlantic: National Hurricane Center

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the Far Eastern Atlantic.

According to the NHC update Sunday morning, there is a 30 percent chance of the system developing as it moves west or southwest across the tropical Atlantic over the next seven days.

The system is located a few hundred miles west of the Cape Verde Islands and is expected to transition into an environment less conducive to development in the next few days.

However, as it moves further west in the western tropical Atlantic, it could move into an area more favorable for development by midweek.

The wave will continue to be monitored over the next 10 days as development could increase over the coming weekend.

It’s unclear what impact, if any, the storm might have on Florida, which has already been hit by two hurricanes – Helene and Milton – in the last month.
