Fall weather is arriving this work week!

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Two weeks into October and we finally have slightly cooler than normal temperatures…a cold front will move through the area today, bringing with it much cooler, drier air and perhaps a few brief showers or two. We need rain, but it will be difficult to get today and for the next week or so; Since we can’t find any beneficial showers, we’ll enjoy the sunshine and the below average forecast with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s!

Monday’s temperatures will be the hardest to determine – the reason for this is the timing of the cold front. Some places, particularly north of Montgomery, will only reach the mid and upper 70s today, while those living in southern Alabama will still warm into the lower and mid 80s.

As the front pushes through on Monday, there isn’t much moisture in the atmosphere; This means that the rain that forms along this front will be very isolated, very light and very brief.

The amount of precipitation today is so small that it is almost not worth mentioning, since in many of our cities and towns there is often nothing at all.

Check out the latest live and local weather below, available to stream on WSFA Weather Now! Please note that this stream does not contain live severe weather coverage, only data on the latest weather conditions.

While this week will be nice, some rain would also be a welcome development. The latest drought monitor shows unusually dry to moderate drought conditions across much of Alabama, and unless a forecast calls for favorable rainy weather, this week’s update will only worsen if the dry weather continues.

On the trail of the tropics: The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a potential area with a medium chance of development over the next week. The area they observed is off the coast of Africa and thousands of miles from the United States.
