Central Texas man battling stage 4 cancer, his family is now asking the community for help

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) – James Anderson, or as his grandchildren call him, is a 63-year-old Central Texas native who loves his family, grilling and fun.

About a year ago, his daughter, Jayci Humphrey, said he started having stomach pains and felt weaker.

He and his family thought nothing of it until even walking became too difficult for him and Anderson finally went to the doctor.

“They checked his levels, ran some tests and all of a sudden the doctor came in as he was sitting in the hallway because it was crowded… and told him he had stage four cancer,” Humphrey shared.

Within minutes, his entire world turned upside down. Humphrey says when she got the call from her mother about her father’s diagnosis, she was shocked.

“You don’t expect to hear that… my dad is in his 60s, I mean that’s young, and so I was just angry,” she said.

But Anderson refused to give up, and now, nearly a year later, he’s still fighting, taking chemo pills every day and getting monthly checkups.

According to Humphrey, “He’s getting better, of course the doctors don’t say it’s 100%, but we always want to give hope.”

However, it wasn’t an easy path. Humphrey says as soon as they overcome one hurdle, another one appears.

“It’s all in his bones,” she explained, “he’s trying to be the haw-haw, the father, the fun-loving guy he can.” His bones are starting to hurt, his skull has some deformities…the chemotherapy has, as we all know, taken its toll.”

That’s why last week she decided to set up a Go Fund Me for him to take some of the pressure off of him so he could focus on fighting.

“He always gives anyone the shirt off his back, and if he can give you something, he will give it to you,” Humphrey said, “so I figured why not just ask his home community for a little help.”

She says when he found out about it, he was moved to tears by the gesture and the fact that donations were actually made.

“He sent me a screenshot with a picture of him with tears streaming down his face and said how thankful and grateful he was,” she said.

If you want to help you can click Here for the Go Fund Me link. But Humphrey says they’re grateful for any additional thoughts or prayers.
