Attendees at the Trump Coachella rally were left behind after campaign buses left without them

Donald Trump made the unusual decision to hold a campaign rally on Saturday in Coachella, California – a state he will undoubtedly lose in this year’s election – and bused his supporters 5 miles to the venue. Unfortunately for thousands of attendees, buses did not appear to return to the venue until late into the night, leaving many attendees stranded.

The story unfolded in a series of videos shared on social media from Saturday evening through Sunday. In a series of posts on Johnson added that there were originally 20 to 30 buses at the event.

He also charged that “something nefarious happened tonight that caused a riot.” Johnson later added that a bus driver told some deserted attendees that “ALL bus (not car) gas stations were completely exhausted,” meaning some of the bus drivers were stranded without gas. “There were apparently 60 buses in use for this event,” he added, “and fuel reserves were completely depleted before the event or were never replenished.”

“Smells like sabotage!” Johnson claimed, with no basis for his accusation. He later explained that he deleted his initial posts “because I was hoping it would help, but it just caused drama.”

“The buses had to leave for 30 minutes to find fuel and many did not return and some got stuck looking for fuel,” he added. “Then the CHP ordered the bus drivers to stop driving. This all came from the bus drivers who kept us updated while we sat on the bus and asked what was happening. She and the sheriffs were all just as confused as we were. My story stands, but the drama spiraled out of control.”

In a separate video reshared on X, a man explained: “This is not normal. Apparently the buses are no longer coming. At least there were about 20 buses when we were brought here. But now there are only three buses running, and it’s absolute… It’s just chaos, absolute chaos. We’re all stranded here. Everyone is stranded here.”

TikTok was also flooded with videos from the event and its aftermath. The account @ohsorandom1977 shared several videos collected from participants. One woman took to the social media platform to share that she and her husband had planned to attend the event, but missed it due to the large crowds wanting to attend – and the apparent lack of logistics to support participants.

As @shannonachristine55 explained, the two came to the event and “it was a nightmare.” The line to park cars was “a mile long” and “and the cars weren’t moving.” They parked about a mile from the venue and walked the entire way to the parking lot, where they hoped to board a shuttle to can.

After waiting in line for an hour, the two decided to leave. “And luckily I heard from another woman who got there around the same time as us and stood in line for two hours. I was about to get on the shuttle bus and they said they had to stop because the venue was full. So I tell myself that this would probably happen to us too,” she added.

Trump has not commented on the bus debacle.

The Desert Sun reported that the event was limited by Riverside County to a maximum of 15,000 people, but Trump claimed that 100,000 people attended the rally.

The GOP candidate visited the city between stops in Las Vegas and Prescott, Arizona. Trump spoke to California attendees for about 80 minutes and “went through the standard list of Republican grievances about the Democratic-dominated state — its large number of illegal immigrants in the U.S., its homeless population and its thicket of regulations — and waded into the water.” “Litigation over the endangered Delta smelt pitting environmentalists against farmers,” the Associated Press reported.
