Man arrested after hate crime stabbing in Derry – The Irish News

Police investigating a knife attack in Derry this morning have arrested a man.

The incident is currently being treated as a racially motivated hate crime.

It happened just after 1:40 a.m. in the Foyle Street area of ​​the city.

It was reported that a 27-year-old man was stabbed multiple times by another man at an area store.

He was taken to hospital for injuries to his left shoulder and lower back that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The man set off on foot towards Shipquay Street after the incident.

A PSNI spokesman said: “A 24-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offense and theft.

“He is currently in police custody.



“The investigation is ongoing and at this time the incident is being treated as a racially motivated hate crime.”

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
