Schnute Tower shooting leads to attempted murder and conspiracy charges

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Two suspects were arrested in Evansville after a robbery turned violent, according to police.

On Saturday around 5:45 p.m., officers were called to a shooting at a Schnute Tower apartment building.

The victim’s son had called 911 and told them that a woman named Jessica was in the apartment at the time of the incident.

Officers arrived to find the victim who had reportedly been shot in the chest and abdomen and had a large graze wound to his head.

Police determined the woman in the apartment was Jessica F. Robb, a 29-year-old Evansville resident.

Officials say she and her boyfriend, DeShawn Q. Greenwell, had active warrants and were known to hang out often.

Officers then went to Robb’s home and arrested her. They noticed that she was sweating and out of breath. Greenwell was also nearby and was taken into custody.

The victim’s son told police he was there during the shooting and said his father sold marijuana at their apartment.

The victim spoke to investigators at the hospital and said he let Robb into his apartment.

He told police that two men with guns then stormed into his apartment and demanded weed and money.

The victim says one of the men struck him in the head with a gun after he failed to comply.

According to an affidavit, the victim believed the men’s guns were fake, so he grabbed a pellet gun and aimed it when one of the men shot him.

Investigators spoke with Robb and she allegedly said that Greenwell and two other men were planning a “drug heist.”

She told officers the plan was that she would go in first to make sure the victim was there and then the men would come in.

Police said Robb claimed her boyfriend backed out at the last minute before the attempted robbery, which Greenwell also told police.

During an interview, police said Greenwell admitted they planned a robbery because they knew the victim had marijuana.

Officials say surveillance video from the residence shows Robb, DeShawn and two other men entering a side door.

According to police, the footage also shows Robb knocking on the victim’s door and two men lurking behind her in the hallway.

According to EPD, Greenwell was no longer part of the group at that time.

Less than 20 seconds after Robb was let in, police said the two men opened the door while holding their guns to their waistbands.

About 24 seconds later, the suspects can be seen leaving the crime scene. One of them ran with Robb while holding a gun.

Based on Greenwell and Robb’s statements, police believe all four suspects were clearly involved in an armed robbery.

Additionally, officers said Robb used the victim’s trust to gain entry to the apartment so other suspects could rob him, which resulted in him being shot twice.

Jessica F. Robb was arrested and booked into jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery and failure to appear.

DeShawn Q. Greenwell was arrested and is charged with conspiracy and failure to appear.

The other two men were not identified by police and were not arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
