Meta, challenging OpenAI, announces a new AI model that can generate videos with sound

FACEBOOK owner Meta announced on Friday (October 4) that it has developed a new AI model called Movie Gen that can create realistic-looking video and audio clips in response to user input, claiming it can be used with leading media generation tools Startups like OpenAI and ElevenLabs are keeping up.

Examples of Movie Gen’s creations provided by Meta featured videos of animals swimming and surfing, as well as videos using real photos of people to depict them performing actions such as painting on a canvas.

Movie Gen can also create background music and sound effects that are synchronized with the content of the videos, Meta said in a blog post.

The company says you can also use the tool to edit existing videos.

In one example video, Meta had the tool put pompoms in the hands of a man running alone in the desert, while in another video it transformed a parking lot in which a man skateboarded from dry ground into a ground covered in spray Puddle. REUTERS
