Apalachee High School plays first home football game since school shooting – WSB-TV Channel 2

BARROW COUNTY, Ga. – Apalachee High School will play its first home football game Friday since a deadly school shooting a month ago.

Last week the team played its first road game against Clarke Central High School.

Friday is expected to be an emotional evening. One of the four victims of the Sept. 4 shooting was math teacher and soccer coach Ricky Aspinwall, whose tribute is expected Friday evening.

Aspinwall, affectionately known as Coach “A,” was a beloved member of the school and football program.

On the field, the team will compete against neighboring Jackson County High School.

The school said it expects a large crowd at the game and is asking families without a player or someone representing one of the schools not to purchase tickets to the game.

The game will be livestreamed on the school’s YouTube page.

“We thank you for your continued support of Chee Nation and your help in helping us host a special Friday Night Lights together,” the school said.
