Here are 5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: March 4-6. October

It may be October, but not every activity has to relate to the fall season. Maybe you need a break between soccer games, pumpkin carving, and Halloween costume selection! Here are a few things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Dormont Street and Music Festival

Take a stroll through Dormont this Saturday and hear live music on three stages throughout the day. Potomac Avenue will be closed to mark the occasion. Local musicians from a variety of genres will fill the day with music – there will even be a full line-up of acoustic acts.

Musical pieces will be played from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. From 1 to 5 p.m. there will also be a children’s zone with various activities – including a visit from the Dormont Fire Department’s fire engine. Food, local beer and craft vendors will be set up to provide attendees with treats and cool items as they stroll around and enjoy the music.

The full program for the festival can be found at boro.dormont.pa.us.

Festival of Burning

Held at the Carrie Furnace, the Festival of Combustion celebrates the makers of all things great and bright. On Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., an all-day iron casting at the blast furnace is the focus of this unique festival.

There will also be demonstrations by blacksmiths of various types, including blacksmiths and glassblowers. Artisans can also sell their handicrafts at a marketplace. Tours of the blast furnace are available, and food trucks, craft beer and live music round out the fun day.

North Side Art Factory art festival

On Saturday, renowned muralists will transform Virgin Way on Pittsburgh’s North Side into a public art gallery with a series of murals. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., a free and public festival will take place as part of this revitalization project.

Viewers can witness the transformation of the public space live while enjoying delicious food from local vendors and a performance by drumline band Timbaleeza, performing at 3:30 p.m

The Beatles at the PSO

Sixty years after the Fab Four’s only concert in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will perform a program of Beatles tunes this weekend.

The program features hits such as “Love Me Do” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and features three guest singers who sing these timeless classics accompanied by the symphony orchestra. It will also be a multi-sensory experience, with a series of historical photos projected in the background.

Performances take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. in Heinz Hall. Before the performances on Friday and Saturday evening, WYEP’s Beatles expert Mike Sauter will provide rare insights into two Beatles songs starting at 6:30 p.m. Grab your tickets at pittsburghsymphony.org.

Beer collection exhibition

The Oktoberfest spirit continues with the Olde Frothingslosh Fall Fest Beer Collectibles Show this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Home Economics Building in South Park Township.

Collectors can browse and purchase beer-related items such as cans, bottles, signs, merchandise and more. Admission is $5 for the public and free for children. Complimentary drinks will be provided and food can be purchased on site.
