Rugrats live-action movie in the works

Rugrats is expected to return with a new live-action film. Pitch perfect Filmmaker Jason Moore is on board to direct the upcoming blockbuster, which will feature CGI-generated babies (via deadline).

Saturday Night Live Star Mikey Day co-wrote the script with Streeter Seidell, while Karen Rosenfelt is producing on the side Rugrats Co-creators Arlene Klasky and Gábor Csupó.

The new film will follow Tommy Pickles and his friends Chuckie Finster and Phil and Lil DeVille as they encounter the real world.

It’s not yet known whether other fan-favorite characters will return, such as Tommy’s brother Dil Pickles, his dog Spike, and their cousin/beater Angelica Pickles.

The hit Nickelodeon series premiered in 1991 and quickly became one of the network’s most popular shows. It was about a group of toddlers who found themselves in a series of crazy adventures – both real and imaginary.

The cast included Cheryl Chase, Nancy Cartwright, Cree Summer, Kath Soucie, Tara Strong, Melanie Chartoff, Christine Cavanaugh and Jack Riley.

Rugrats The animation initially lasted for three seasons before production ceased in 1993. After ratings increased, the animation was rebooted in 1996 and continued until 2004 – a total of nine seasons.

The series has since inspired a number of films, including 1998’s The Rugrats movie2000s Rugrats in Paris and 2003 Rugrats go wild – which was about a crossover event with animated series The wild thornberries.

A sequel show titled All grown up! – was released in 2003 and followed the main characters ten years after the events of Rugrats.

Paramount+ also released a reboot of the fan-favorite series in 2021, featuring most of the voices from the original series.

Moore recently directed a romantic comedy for Prime Video muslim marriagewhich starred Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel. He also directed the 2015 Tina Fey and Amy Poehler comedy sisters.
