Coldplay concert: Will BookMyShow cancel unethically sold tickets? We know that

Coldplay concert in Mumbai: BookMyShow, which has been caught in the storm over ticket sales for British band Coldplay’s performance in Mumbai, has lodged a formal complaint against digital platforms selling tickets for the concert. BookMyShow had exclusive rights to sell tickets for the band’s India tour.

A spokesperson for the ticketing platform said that unethically sold tickets for the Coldplay concert could also be canceled.

A BookMyShow spokesperson said the platform filed an FIR on October 2 “against ticket scalping and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India.” This came after BookMyShow proactively lodged an initial complaint with the Mumbai Police on September 23 – before a formal complaint was lodged against them, the spokesperson said.

“BookMyShow’s FIR lodged with the Mumbai Police also urges the authorities to investigate unauthorized resale of tickets by individuals and platforms,” the spokesperson said.

“We have provided details of all resellers that have come to our attention, including independent individuals who are reselling tickets for this tour across social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp and beyond, as well as digital platforms such as Viagogo, Stubhub Holdings and more, “The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation,” the spokesman said, adding that they will monitor cases of resale of tickets through black market channels and continue to pass on relevant information to the authorities.

“BookMyShow is considering possible cancellation of such tickets that are sold unethically,” the spokesperson said.

BookMyShow condemns and opposes the resale of tickets, the spokesperson said, adding that its stance on this has not changed and remains clear. The spokesperson noted that resale of tickets is a punishable offense in India and there is no association with any unauthorized ticket selling/resale platforms or third-party companies.

The spokesman’s statement comes amid growing concerns about the Coldplay concert and whether it would be canceled due to the legal issues. Nevertheless, it was confirmed that the show will go ahead as planned.

“We would also like to clarify that Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India will take place as planned. “Other reports are factually incorrect,” the spokesperson said, adding that BookMyShow wants to ensure fans are given a fair chance to secure the tickets and has therefore capped the limit at four purchases per user.

Coldplay is scheduled to play Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025 as part of its Music of the Spheres World Tour. The tickets, which were initially priced between Rs 2,500 and Rs 35,000, were sold for up to Rs 3 lakh or more on platforms like Viagogo.
