Tom Selleck is ‘frustrated’ with CBS after the network canceled his hit series ‘Blue Bloods’: ‘The show was always taken for granted’

Tom Selleck shared his disappointment after CBS canceled his long-running TV cop drama Blue Bloods.

The network announced that the hit series would end last fall, and the 79-year-old actor expressed that he was “frustrated” with the decision in a new interview with TV Insider.

“I’m kind of frustrated. “During these last eight shows, I didn’t want to talk about Blue Bloods ending, but rather that it’s still a huge success.”

“In the top 100 shows from 2023 to 2024 (we were number 9 out of 100 in total viewers), if you ignore the three football shows, we are in 6th place!” he said.

He added: “What frustrates me is that the show has always been taken for granted because it worked from the start.”

He continued: “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old man saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you told the TV station, ‘Here’s a show that You can program it in the worst time slot you have and that will guarantee you win Friday nights for the next 15 years.” “It would be almost impossible to believe.”

“How do I feel? “It will take a long time to sort this all out.”

“I remember the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot]I said, “I have to go to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.” Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.’

Selleck is said to have returned to his California ranch with his wife Jillie Mack, 66, after 14 years of traveling to and from the East Coast to film the show, which was suddenly halted by CBS bosses late last year.

Selleck made no secret of his disappointment at the end of Blue Bloods, and after the show’s bosses announced last year that filming was stopping, he said he hoped they would “come to their senses.”

Although filming has wrapped on the series, fans can still expect to see the actor at the conclusion of the 14th and final season, with the final episodes beginning on October 18th.

Previously best known as “Magnum PI” and for a role on “Friends,” Selleck won legions of fans with his role as Frank Reagan on “Blue Bloods,” a fictional NYPD detective.

He has starred alongside Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes since September 2010 and said when the show was canceled that fans were sure to react angrily to the decision.

“CBS is going to find that a lot of people are not ready to say goodbye to this,” he said at the time.

“The show is more popular than ever, I think.” [numbers] will increase with interest this year. We definitely won’t run out of ideas.’

The popular series had an impressive 14-year run on CBS with 14 seasons. “Blue Bloods” became the second-longest-running scripted series on CBS after NCIS (with 21 seasons).

The series premiered on September 24, 2010.

Blue Bloods focuses on the Reagans – with Frank as the patriarch and the police commissioner of the New York Police Department.

His son Danny – played by Wahlberg – is an NYPD detective and his other son Jamie – played by Will – is an NYPD sergeant. Frank’s daughter Erin – played by Bridget – is an assistant district attorney.

His son Joe was killed in the line of duty by a corrupt police officer.

Tom shared an official statement about the end of Blue Blood last year: “For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect New York City and serve, but also showed the importance of family.’

The TV star continued: “Working with these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I am grateful to have been part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.”

CBS Entertainment and CBS Studios presidents Amy released a joint statement: “Blue Bloods will forever remain a beloved part of the CBS legacy.”

“Since its premiere, it dominated Friday nights with unprecedented dominance, establishing itself as a pillar of our successful lineup with an exceptionally loyal fan base.”

They added: “We will forever be grateful to the legendary Leonard Goldberg for the creation of this unique series and the magnificent cast led by Tom Selleck, whom America embraced like family and watched as welcome guests at the Reagan dinner table.”

Tom revealed in May that the fallout from Blue Bloods’ ending could cost him his final years on the ranch.

Despite a decades-long career in Hollywood — including a reported $200,000-per-episode deal with “Blue Bloods” — he told CBS Sunday Morning that he was in danger of falling behind on his bills after the show was canceled.

“You know, hopefully I keep working enough to keep the place,” Selleck said, to which CBS correspondent Tracy Smith replied, “Seriously, is that a problem? If you stop working?”

Selleck said: “That’s always a problem – if I stop working, yes.” Am I ready for life? Yes, but maybe not on a 150-acre ranch!’
