If you actually like it when movies do this

Um

If you actually like it when movies do thisfull name If you really like it when movies do that, you can kiss my assis a catchphrase that comes from a bait post that parodies viral discussions of tropes in the media. The post combines the sentence with an illustration that roughly outlines the “Hero’s Journey” trope, one of the longest and most well-established tropes in all of fiction. The post sparked discussion from people who didn’t know it was bait, as well as other parodies using the catchphrase.

Origin

On September 29, 2024, Twitter user @PaintraSeaPea, who had just 20 minutes earlier posted a viral trend depicting a “quick-anger duck-like character and his three color-coordinated nephews” in a recent media parody, posted an image depicting a simplified two shows – panel illustration of the Hero’s Journey, an old fiction novel about how a main character starts out a normal life but goes on an adventure and ends up gaining self-confidence and friends. They captioned the post, “If you really like it when movies do that, you can kiss my ass,” and it received over 5,000 retweets and 64,000 likes within four days.

In subsequent posts, @PaintraSeaPea suggested that the post was a parody. Her follow-up tweet read: “‘That’s just storytelling,’ ‘That describes every movie.’ If that were true, don’t you think my post would look pretty ridiculous? Why would anyone intentionally say something so obviously absurd? ? Did you really stumble upon the stupidest person in the world?”

Despite this, many users on social media posted popular jokes and criticism of the tweet without realizing that it was a parody. For example, on September 30, 2024, Twitter user @FighterPosting tweeted the post with the joking quote “Bro is excited about the hero’s journey” and received over 15,000 retweets and 253,000 likes in three days.
