Could “Will & Harper” get a sequel on Netflix?

Netflix’s heartwarming documentary Will & Harper quickly won over viewers as they followed Will Ferrell and Harper Steele’s road trip across America, but are they ready to take another one?

The film, which follows Ferrell and Steele on a two-week cross-state road trip, focuses on how the friends reconnect after Harper comes out as a trans woman. While the film addresses the hardships of transgender life in conservative states and spaces, at its core, this film is about friendship and the power of love and acceptance, something that has never been given up between the two.

But is there room for a second film? Towards the end of the film, Ferrell asks Steele what she plans to do next, and she mentions that she needs to go back to New York, where she’s from, and drive her car across the country again.

“I’m going back tomorrow, I have to go back to New York, so I’m going back over,” Steele says in the final moments of the film, sitting next to Ferrell in folding chairs on a beach in California. “What are you doing by the way?” she continues to ask.

“I literally have nothing. “I’m completely open,” Ferrell replies.

“Do you want to go back with me?” Harper wonders.

“Yeah, let’s just go over it again,” Ferrell confirms.

Whether this is a joke or not is unclear, and while there are no confirmed plans for a second film, it certainly feels like the door is open for another entry into this sweet story. As the duo say in the documentary, they could take a new route back through the United States, reaching different areas across the country.
