Deep Ellum Block Party: Music Festival Comes to Dallas, Texas

DALLAS – A music festival is coming back to the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas.

And it’s free to the public.

The Deep Ellum Block Party takes place on Saturday, November 23rd and will be headlined by long-time Dallas band Polyphonic Spree and Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon. A full schedule of cast and acts will be announced soon. The event starts on November 23rd at 12 p.m.

The Deep Ellum Foundation, which runs the event, says the program will include “exclusive reunions, mashups and genre-centric showcases” at venues across Deep Ellum.

The centerpiece of the block party will be along Elm Street, which will be blocked off by Deep Ellum.

“Playing at Deep Ellum Block Party will definitely feel like returning home in a way,” said Tim DeLaughter of Polyphonic Spree. “Many, many wonderful memories were made down there back then.”

The event also features live murals, an artist market, classic cars and family-friendly activities.

“Deep Ellum’s history as the birthplace of the Dallas music scene – from the bluesy licks of Blind Lemon Jefferson to the punk and indie sounds that define today’s landscape – will be the focus,” said a press release from the Deep Ellum Foundation . “The history of the historic district is inextricably linked to music, a key reason the area is known as “the soul of Dallas.”

The block party event follows on from last year’s Deep Ellum Music Festival, which featured Rev. Run and Doug E. Fresh, among others, in honor of Deep Ellum’s 150th anniversary as a cultural district.
