Emergency services tell us that they are being attacked all over Lebanon and feel attacked.

A member of the civil defense team in the south of the country, who did not want to be named, told us today about a triple attack.

“One crew assisted in rescue after an attack but was then attacked,” he said, while “a second crew came as a backup to assist and then was attacked.”

“The Red Cross then rushed to help – and was also attacked.”

“How can we not see this as us being targeted?” he said.

“They are evil and have no heart.”

But a 20-year-old civil defense worker named Yasser told us: “We will not stop working – people need us and we will continue to help them.”

Her stoicism is all the more remarkable given that it occurred on the same day that seven more of her colleagues were killed in a strike in central Beirut.

We have spoken to many emergency workers during the time we have been here – doctors, nurses, paramedics and civil defense workers.

Many have so far asked not to be filmed or not to be identified. But many are now stepping out of the shadows, hoping their voices and their faces will resonate with the wider public and raise awareness of the dangers they face.

As a group of mostly foreign media spoke to civil defense crews next to a bomb site in Tire that they were trying to clear, another warning came.

“Evacuate,” came the call.

We were told to leave – quickly.

“Come on, go,” said the Hezbollah organizers.

Teams quickly boarded their emergency vehicles and were on their way within minutes, knowing they were almost certainly in for another busy night.
