Now that Bane is joining James Gunn's DCU, here are 8 actors who I think would be perfect for the role of the Batman villain

Dave Bautista, a name that has long been at the top of the fan casting list for Bane, was just as excited about the idea of playing the villain as fans were. But there were no other applicable projects he could use, and Bautista has since changed his tune about it, as he now considers himself too old to make a commitment that could amount to several films.

But even if it’s just a one-time appearance, I don’t think Bautista will ever truly disappear from the role of top player. (Assuming his problem is with fans’ perception and not his own physical health.) In addition to being used to stunt work and dramatic acting, he also has a close relationship with Marvel’s James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy Films. There are no wrong moves here.

Laz Alonso

Considering that Bane’s origin story comes from the Caribbean islands, if not legitimate ones, it would be great if the DCU film took this into account when casting. That’s one of the reasons why I think The boys“Laz Alonso, whose parents are Cuban immigrants, could deliver a pretty solid and intimidating performance as Bane.”

Of course, another important part of this mindset is that he’s already such a badass The boys protagonist Mothers Milk, and I always enjoy it when actors take on characters on the opposite end of the moral spectrum. A Venezuelan actor fluent in five different languages, Édgar Ramírez has proven to be an excellent addition to any cast or project, often opting for above-average productions. (The less you remember about 2015 Point breakthe better.)

Even though he hasn’t been involved in superhero projects, he is familiar with blockbuster projects (Bright, Jungle cruise), villainous roles (The Bourne Ultimatum, Wrath of the Titans) and real drama (Stone hands, Carlos). He also played Hawkman Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam and voiced John Stewart’s Green Lantern in two different animated DCEU films. So it could be the… bane… of his existence if someone knocks on his door and asks him to play yet another DC role.

However, one’s own talent for a new role should not be ignored just because the person was good enough to get semi-related roles in the past. Additionally, his father Aldis Basil Hodge and that part of the family are from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, so there are connections to that part of Bane’s life.

Brian Cage

Sometimes it’s not necessarily about having the most experienced dramatic actor in a role, but rather about having the most physically intimidating performer imaginable. Here, professional wrestler Brian Cage enters the arena and then smashes everything to pieces.

Currently signed to AEW, Cage is a hulking giant no matter what he’s wearing. But while there are plenty of wrestlers who could fit the list of Batman villains based on size alone, Cage has actually wrestled in the ring dressed as Bane several times (once against a Jason Voorhees), and that’s practically perfect, even if he it didn’t break the back of one of his opponents.

If the casting call is looking for a “young, internationally popular Caribbean artist previously signed to work on a superhero project that no longer exists,” then there’s no better choice than Bad Bunny. And I know that’s not what the casting call would say, but this suggestion is still relevant.

The Puerto Rican musician has sold and starred in millions of records High speed trainand even put his body on the line for WWE’s Royal Rumble 2022 and Backlash 2023 before he was set to make his Spidey-Verse style debut El Muertobefore this project was removed from the 2024 film program. So if he’s prone to being tricked, he might as well do it to play Bane, right?

Michael Irby

Of course, Michael Irby is one of those actors who isn’t exactly known for playing outsized threats that terrify those in front of him. (Certainly not on Lopez vs. Lopez.) Also as BarryFormer mafia boss Cristobal is calm and professional rather than intimidating.

But his work over five seasons Mayans MC For me, I wanted to see him take on more roles like this (bulging biceps) where he can show how scary he can be when he’s angry. Even if Bane’s mask were to cover up the actor’s prominent mustache, his eyes would be more than enough to make it clear how much he’d like to bend Batman over his knee. And bonus points if the DCU version of Bane loves motorcycles.

For those who don’t know, stand-up comedian and voice actor extraordinaire James Adomian is the genius who rightly made Bane one of the funniest animated characters on television through Max’s Harley Quinn and its A+ spinoff Kite-Man: Hell yeah! Even if the voice is basically just a funny parody of Tom Hardy TDKR Presentation, it still fits perfectly.

Do I think Adomian is physically the perfect actor to play the role? Probably not, although I think that’s an easy costume to sell. But even if no one wanted the comedian to take on the role on camera, he could still provide the character’s voice while someone else (like Brian Cage) serves as the giant villain’s body. What is his how?Twisted metal handled Sweet Tooth’s performance, splitting it between Samoa Joe on set and Will Arnett in the vocal booth.

Even if none of these castings materialize, I’m still very confident that James Gunn and Peter Safran will be ready to deliver when the DCU officially begins with Gunn’s Supermanthe animated Creature Commands and other Chapter 1 projects.
