Israel-Iran News: Six dead in Israeli attack on Beirut – after US warns it will not support attack on Iranian nuclear facilities | World News

Welcome back to our live coverage of the conflict in the Middle East.

Before we update you with the latest news, here are the most important updates from the last 24 hours:

The night strikes in Beirut continue

The number of people killed in an Israeli attack on central Beirut has risen from five to six, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Another seven people were injured, it said.

A building damaged in the attack stands just meters from the Lebanese Parliament.

Israel said it carried out a targeted airstrike on the city as it targets Iran-backed Hezbollah militants who pose a threat to Israeli security.

At the same time, further strikes broke out in the southern suburbs of the capital after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) ordered urgent evacuations in three districts.

Biden is against nuclear attacks

Joe Biden said he would not support Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in response to Tehran’s missile attack on Israel.

“We will discuss with the Israelis what they will do, but all seven of us.” [G7 nations] “I agree they have the right to respond, but they should respond proportionately,” he said.

Israel could reportedly target nuclear sites, while Washington is rumored to be planning to attack oil facilities.

Eight Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon

According to the Israeli military, eight Israeli soldiers were killed in fighting in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah said its fighters had clashed with Israeli soldiers in two border towns – Maroun Al Ras and Adaisseh – since the IDF began its offensive in Lebanon on Tuesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased “heroes”.

Iran takes the floor at the UN

Iran’s permanent U.N. ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said Israel was a “serious threat to international peace and security.”

He described his country’s attacks on Israel as self-defense attacks.

Mr. Iravani also accused the United Nations of doing “nothing” in the face of Israeli aggression against Iran and “resistance movements,” referring to Iranian-backed groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas.
