The former walk-on’s ratings increase enormously in the new update

Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter was boosted to an overall score of 97 in the latest EA College Football 25 ratings update, but there’s a lesser-known player who made the biggest jump.

If you’ve never heard of Buffalo Bulls cornerback Marquis Cooper, EA Sports is making it a little easier for you to get to know the Queens native.

In the most recent ratings update, Cooper saw the largest jump in his overall rating in the country. After a strong start with the Bulls, Cooper improved from 53 to 80 overall.

Cooper has 23 solo tackles in five games, including two for a loss, a blocked field goal and an interception. The selection probably got the most attention. Cooper picked up a pass from UMass QB Taisun Phommachanh and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown.

With all due respect to Cooper, who showed excellent speed and willingness to bring it in, Phommachanh’s decision to throw that pass and not keep it himself or simply throw it out of bounds is one of the worst QB decisions, I’ve seen every level all year round.

In case you missed it, here’s a look at the piece.

Cooper, a redshirt junior who transferred from Colgate and had to leave to get his chance, played well overall. We’ll see if he can continue his rise in his senior year and make an NFL roster.

It would be a great story. Some others made big jumps in the latest ratings update. Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson jumped from 74 to 87. The junior has been on a roll this season.

Johnson averages an insane 8.4 yards per carry.

He has nine touchdowns and has rushed for at least 39 yards in all four of the Hawkeyes’ games this year. I wonder if the plus-13 was enough to capture how good Johnson was.

Here you will find an overview of all rating adjustments, from the biggest movers to the movers. Florida State Seminoles LT Darius Washington dropped four points for an 85 total.

This decline could also be a window into the senior’s draft stock.
