Chelsea are strong favorites to win the Conference League

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are riding high and are just two points off the top of the table Liverpool in the Premier League and the club is enjoying a rare moment of calm.

From a chaotic transfer policy to disappointing results, a managerial change and the fallout from a row between Stamford Bridge’s two most influential owners, it’s been a wild six months for the west Londoners.

However, with a group of still-young players who seem to be getting used to each other and to English football as a whole, they have finally settled in.

Maresca also implemented his tactical approach faster than anyone could have imagined.

The talk is no longer about Chelsea being a lost cause, but about what they can achieve under this Boehly-Clearlake consortium – arguably for the first time in their two-plus year tenure.

Questions remain about the size of the squad, forcing the Italian coach to make ruthless decisions, but the results are positive as the club’s Conference League season begins on Thursday at Stamford Bridge against KAA Gent.

At Wednesday’s press conference, Maresca will likely be asked:

  • Whether he will change 10 or 11 players for the third game in a row

  • Where was Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall against Brighton?

  • How Reece James’ recovery is progressing

  • Whether this competition is the easiest way to silver
