Uganda: Museveni celebrates Deborah Katuramu’s 49-year legacy as “corruption-free”.

President Museveni along with First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni led a brief retirement ceremony for Deputy Head of Civil Service Deborah Katuramu during the Cabinet meeting at State House Entebbe on Monday.

On this occasion Katuramu was present in the cabinet for the last time.

President Museveni praised her for her exemplary and corruption-free service in government and presented her with a presidential award as a token of appreciation.

“I have not heard of her being involved in corruption,” he reiterated, wishing her a fulfilling retirement.

In a distinguished tenure of 49 years, Katuramu served as a senior civil servant, most recently as Deputy Head of the Civil Service and Deputy Cabinet Secretary.

Vice President Jessica Alupo praised Katuramu’s efficiency and availability, stating, “Her motherly and professional leadership will be missed.”

She acknowledged Katuramu’s role in mentoring many future leaders.

Lucy Nakyobe, Head of Civil Service and Cabinet Secretary, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Katuramu’s dedicated service, which began in 1975 as a human resources officer and culminated in her current role.

Nakyobe noted, “Your unwavering commitment will be remembered for generations.”

Katuramu’s professionalism, wisdom and humility have contributed significantly to the growth and efficiency of the public service.

“Their dedication and institutional knowledge have greatly benefited the nation. We will miss her invaluable presence as she begins this new chapter,” Nakyobe added.

Reflecting on her career, Katuramu expressed her gratitude for the opportunities to serve in various capacities, including local government, cultural and community development, and the office of the President.

She highlighted the rewards of her trip and acknowledged Nakyobe’s significant assistance in preparing cabinet papers and minutes.

As she retires, Katuramu leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a profound impact on public service in Uganda.
