Last US election: Vance and Waltz face off in vice presidential debate | US News

These debates are all about memes – moments that go viral online.

They can be good and bad.

Right now, an hour and twenty minutes later, it’s a slip of the tongue from Walz that’s going viral: a five-second clip in which he says, “I’ve become friends with school shooters.”

The more detailed clip shows that it was a strange, unfortunate slip-up.

“You previously opposed an assault weapons ban and only changed your position later in your political career. “Why?” he was asked by the moderator.

His answer: “Yes, I sat in this office with the parents of Sandy Hook (2012 mass shooting). I became friends with school shooters. I saw it,” he said.

He clearly wanted to say: “I have become friends with victims of school attacks.”

Still, the meme is out there.

Both camps will be happy about political discussions

Still, both camps will be happy with what they’ve seen so far.

Walz tries to talk to people in their living rooms, and he talks about politics – something his presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, is said to have avoided.

Vance also talks politics, a relief for the political pundits within the Trump campaign who are tearing their hair out over the former president’s inability to stick to the message.
