Debate moderator checks JD Vance

It was a very sarcastic thank you.

At today’s vice presidential debate between Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D), the conversation turned to the most important moment of last month’s presidential debate: Haitian migrants in Springfield.

“Look, in Springfield, Ohio – and in communities across the country – there are schools that are overwhelmed, there are hospitals that are overwhelmed, there are housing that is completely unaffordable because we have brought in millions of illegal people.” Immigrants compete with Americans for scarce housing,” Vance said.

“The people I worry about most in Springfield, Ohio are the American citizens whose lives have been destroyed by Kamala Harris’ open border,” he added. “It’s a shame, Tim, and I actually think I agree with you. I think you want to solve this problem. But I don’t think Kamala Harris does that.”

Walz hit back by criticizing the demonization of migrants and citing a Bible passage about compassion.

Host Margaret Brennan then went further, giving viewers a quick aside about how the Haitian migrants in question have temporary protected legal status.

Vance then interrupted as the moderators tried to continue, protesting, “The rules were that you wouldn’t fact-check, and since you’re fact-checking, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.”

“So there’s an application called the CBP One app that allows you to continue as an illegal immigrant, apply for asylum or parole, and get legal status with a Kamala Harris wand for open borders,” he continued. “This is not a person who applies for a green card and waits 10 years.”

“Thank you, Senator,” Brennan replied, before interrupting again with a sarcastic remark: “Thank you, Senator, for describing the legal process.”

His microphone was then switched off.

The back-and-forth exchange quickly became a hit with Vance’s online critics.

“‘Thank you Senator for explaining the legal process’ was actually so funny I laughed out loud,” one person wrote.

Other critics mocked Vance’s refutation of Brennan’s fact-checking.

“We’re crazy about being fact-checked, aren’t we?!” wrote Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).

“‘You said you wouldn’t check the facts’ is HUGE loser energy,” another quipped.

But his supporters don’t seem to mind Vance’s line.

TikTok’s right-wing account Libs said: “JD Vance refuses to accept fake fact check and tells moderators to close his mic. “Incredible”
