Secretary of State Antony Blinken published an editorial Tuesday touting the Biden-Harris administration’s foreign policy record and saying it made drastic departures from former President Trump, the same day Iran directly attacked Israel with hundreds of ballistic missiles have.

Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at targets in Israel on Tuesday evening local time, in what the government called a “significant escalation by Iran.” The indiscriminate rocket fire was part of the Shiite regime’s response to Israel’s assassination of nearly the entire top Hezbollah leadership, including longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Hours before the attack on Iran, Blinken emphasized in his editorial how Biden-Harris’ post-Trump “renewal” strategy was working and strengthening America’s interests abroad.

“The Biden administration’s strategy has placed the United States in a much stronger geopolitical position today than it was four years ago,” Blinken said.

Blinken said the administration has prioritized international cooperation and avoided making decisions in isolation abroad.

“From day one, President Biden and Vice President Harris made the fundamental decision that the United States cannot go it alone in a more competitive and explosive world. “If America wants to protect its security and create opportunity for its people, it must stand with those interested in a free, open, secure and prosperous world and oppose those who threaten that world,” he wrote. “President Biden and Vice President Harris pursued a strategy of renewal, combining historic investments in competitiveness at home with an intensive diplomatic campaign to revitalize partnerships abroad,” he said. “This two-pronged strategy was, in their opinion, the best way to convince competitors of their belief that the United States was declining and dovish.”

Blinken also stated that the war in Gaza was linked to Iran’s evil behavior.

“Without an end to the war in Gaza and a time-bound, credible path to statehood that takes into account the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians and the security needs of Israel, normalization cannot move forward. However, if these efforts are successful, normalization would turn Israel into a regional security “destroying architecture, opening up economic opportunities across the region and isolating Iran and its proxies,” he continued. “Signs of such integration were evident in the coalition of countries, including Arab states, that helped Israel defend itself against an unprecedented direct attack from Iran in April.”

The State Department referred Fox News Digital to the department’s briefing when asked for comment.

House Republicans have described Biden and Harris’ foreign policy as one aimed at “appeasement,” particularly toward Iran.

“Our adversaries are mounting increasingly dangerous attacks because of the weak and failed foreign policies of Biden and Harris,” said a joint statement from House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Leader Tom Emmer and Chairwoman Elise Stefanik.

“Iran is once again brazenly attacking Israel with rocket fire and an apparent coordinated terrorist attack. The world watches as Israeli families seek shelter and protection as waves of rocket attacks light the sky.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned in a statement carried by Iranian state media that Israel would face “devastating attacks” if it responded to the rocket fire.
