These Asheville breweries are offering free food and water after deadly flooding in North Carolina

ASHEVILLE – Local restaurants, breweries and other businesses with opportunity will offer resources for community members and service organizations in the Asheville area on Sept. 30.

This is how they help:

World Central Kitchen

The global disaster relief organization will distribute hot meals and water from 7 p.m Noon Sept. 30 from Bear’s Smokehouse, 135 Coxe Ave. in the downtown South Slope district. The limit is one meal per person.

Local restaurants supporting WCK with commercial kitchens for food preparation and distribution, as well as ingredient donations, include Cúrate, Chai Pani Restaurant Group, Bear’s Smokehouse, Mission Pizza, Good Hot Fish and The Market Place.

Equal Plates Project/Firestorm

The local nonprofit, which works to address food insecurity, provides prepared meals to Healthy Opportunity Pilot and Medicaid residents and distributes them through community partners like Poder Emma. Director Madi Holtzman said local farm partners provided ingredients and water.

Starting the morning of September 30, the organization planned to donate food for distribution at Firestorm Bookstore.

Firestorm acts as a drop-off and distribution site for food and supplies for community members 1022 Haywood Rd in West Asheville.

Manna Food Bank

On September 30, Claire Neal, CEO of Manna FoodBank, posted on social media that their facility at 627 Swannanoa River Road was “completely destroyed.” The public is advised not to visit for health and safety reasons. Donations can be sent to donate.mannafoodbank.org.

Hearts with hands

Hearts with Hands will continue its relief efforts by distributing food boxes and water at the Outreach Ministry’s outreach camp, 850 Warren Wilson Road in Swannanoa, on September 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The organization plans to add hot meal distribution later.

More places to get meals/food

Asheville Poverty Initiative’s 12 Baskets Café serves food to the community beginning at 8 p.m September 30th, 10 a.m. Donations are welcome, including paper plates, disposable utensils, water, bread and “other easy-to-serve foods.”

The golden hour of the radical The hotel restaurant is distributing free sandwiches and hot meals at 95 Roberts St. in the River Arts District until supplies run out. According to Chef Kevin Chrismas, all remaining food will be available on October 1 at All Day Darling at 102 Montford Ave. transported and distributed. The Radical is closed to the public; and open only to first responders and other disaster relief workers.

Rosetta’s Kitchen & The Buchi Bar will begin soup kitchen operations and donation-based food distribution on September 30th at 12:00 p.m 68 North Lexington Ave. Downtown.

Flour began distributing free cookies, other baked goods and hot coffee to the public on the morning of Sept. 30 and will continue until supplies last S&W Market, 56 Patton Ave.Downtown.

Terra Nova Beer Co. is offering free water refills while supplies last 101 South Lexington Ave. in the South Slope brewing district. Individuals must bring containers. There is a water outlet outside the building for self-filling. Sockets for charging electronic devices are available on the brewery’s terrace.

Itto ramen will be handing out free food at its West Asheville restaurant starting at 2:30 p.m. until supplies last. 630 Haywood Rd. The downtown location is closed.

West Village Market is open for limited hours and sells groceries such as fruits and vegetables, meat, and vegan and dairy-free products 771 Haywood Rd. Cash, card and EBT are accepted.

Cellarest beer project announced it will open at 395 Haywood Road daily at 12 p.m. There is no water or Wi-Fi at the West Asheville taproom, but there is electricity. The public is welcome to charge devices.

Walls Wine Bar is open and selling beer, wine, vegan cheese and chocolate in its art gallery and wine bar 38 Broadway St. Downtown. Cash only.
