These Asheville breweries are offering free food and water after deadly flooding in North Carolina

ASHEVILLE – Local restaurants, breweries and other businesses with opportunity will offer resources for community members and service organizations in the Asheville area on Sept. 30.

This is how they help:

World Central Kitchen

The global disaster relief organization will distribute hot meals and water from 7 p.m Noon Sept. 30 from Bear’s Smokehouse, 135 Coxe Ave. in the downtown South Slope district. The limit is one meal per person.

Local restaurants supporting WCK with commercial kitchens for food preparation and distribution, as well as ingredient donations, include Cúrate, Chai Pani Restaurant Group, Bear’s Smokehouse, Mission Pizza, Good Hot Fish and The Market Place.

Equal Plates Project/Firestorm

The local nonprofit, which works to address food insecurity, provides prepared meals to Healthy Opportunity Pilot and Medicaid residents and distributes them through community partners like Poder Emma. Director Madi Holtzman said local farm partners provided ingredients and water.

Starting the morning of September 30, the organization planned to donate food for distribution at Firestorm Bookstore.

Firestorm acts as a drop-off and distribution site for food and supplies for community members 1022 Haywood Rd in West Asheville.

Manna Food Bank

On September 30, Claire Neal, CEO of Manna FoodBank, posted on social media that their facility at 627 Swannanoa River Road was “completely destroyed.” The public is advised not to visit for health and safety reasons. Donations can be sent to donate.mannafoodbank.org.

Hearts with hands

Hearts with Hands will continue its relief efforts by distributing food boxes and water at the Outreach Ministry’s outreach camp, 850 Warren Wilson Road in Swannanoa, on September 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The organization plans to add hot meal distribution later.
