Girl spent 30 hours without realizing she was bitten by a rattlesnake

An Arizona girl nearly lost her leg after not realizing she had been bitten by a rattlesnake for 30 hours, according to her family.

Allie Brasfield, 7, was spending time with her family at Gilbert Regional Park on Monday, September 16, when she fell while jogging along a canal, according to Arizona’s Family.

“It didn’t hurt right away,” Allie said, according to NBC affiliate KNPX. Amber Brasfield, her mother, later claimed, “No one saw a snake, no one heard a rattle.”

According to FOX affiliate KSAZ-TV, Allie’s mother said her daughter was able to finish the run but complained of ankle pain and swelling shortly after returning.

It didn’t take long for Allie to realize she wasn’t feeling well. Concerned, her parents took her to several emergency rooms, where they had difficulty making a diagnosis.

The family eventually ended up at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a rattlesnake bite. More than 30 hours passed between the moment Allie was bitten and the time doctors began responding to the bite.

Fortunately, doctors were able to save Allie’s leg and her life. Allie received 40 vials of antivenom and underwent two surgeries in response to the injury.

However, according to KNPX, Allie’s mother claimed that “there were no stab wounds” on her daughter’s leg.

“It was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through, seeing your child crying in pain and you being unable to do anything about it,” Amber said, according to Arizona’s Family.

According to a GoFundMe campaign to support her family after the sudden emergency, Allie was scheduled to undergo a third surgery on Monday, September 30.

Amber said Allie still has “a long way to go” but believes her daughter is making “good progress” health-wise, KSAZ-TV reported.

“They’re hoping she can make a full recovery with physical therapy and occupational therapy alone,” the mother explained, according to Arizona’s Family. “Nothing about her case is normal.”
