Bengaluru man avoids iPhone 15 scam with open box delivery from Flipkart

A Bengaluru resident has exposed a possible delivery scam when he ordered an iPhone 15 during a Flipkart sale, as shared in a viral Reddit post. The person explained how he was able to avoid fraud by recording the entire interaction with the delivery person.

In the post, the Redditor shared that her sister ordered the iPhone 15 with VIP service, which allows customers to view the product before accepting it. However, when the delivery arrived, the person delivering the package refused to follow the protocol for opening the package.

The resident explained that the delivery driver, who was described as “a man in white”, insisted on accepting the package without the box opening service as it was not available. The resident was suspicious, refused, and began recording the interaction. The delivery driver reportedly panicked and spoke to his accomplices in Kannada as he was afraid of being recorded.

“(He) told his accomplices in Kannada that I recorded everything and everyone,” the Redditor wrote.

The situation escalated when, just two minutes later, another delivery person arrived with a smaller package and agreed to deliver it in an open box. The buyer examined the product and confirmed that it was the original iPhone 15. The Reddit user suspects the first delivery person was part of a scam and believes recording the interaction helped prevent receiving a counterfeit or incorrect package.

The post has garnered widespread attention, with many Reddit users sharing their own experiences and offering advice on how to deal with similar situations.

One user said: “This means the original delivery man was part of the scam. Report to Flipkart with evidence videos. If he’s not fired, he’ll pass the fraud on to someone else.”

Many people praised the Bengaluru resident’s quick thinking and encouraged others to do the same. One user commented: “Great presence of mind. I always tell people: If something feels uncomfortable, start recording straight away.” Others shared their own stories, with one person saying: “Perfect timing – I’m expecting a similar package. I will also record my delivery.”

Flipkart has not yet commented on the incident.

In another case, a 30-year-old Flipkart delivery man was reportedly killed in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh last week. According to police, he had gone to deliver an Apple iPhone to a customer who was supposed to pay Rs 1,5000 in cash upon delivery.
