WATCH LIVE: Walz and Vance meet in the vice president debate

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance will face off in a vice presidential debate on Tuesday.

The only vice presidential debate of the season follows two presidential debates featuring three major party candidates. Former President Trump edged out President Biden in the first debate in June, sparking a reckoning in the Democratic Party that led to Biden ending his re-election campaign. Vice President Harris quickly clinched the Democratic nomination and was widely seen as the winner against Trump in the second presidential debate last month.

While vice-presidential debates don’t draw the same crowd as clashes between the party’s headliners, they have created memorable moments — some of them intentional, like Sen. Lloyd Benson’s “You’re no Jack Kennedy” slam against then-Sen. Dan Quayle in 1988, and some not, like the fly that briefly eclipsed Vice President Pence in 2020.

The CBS-moderated debate begins at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. You can watch NPR’s coverage and simulcast of the debate below.
