Sonoma County cooling centers begin opening

With fall temperatures soaring into triple digits this week, cooling centers are opening in parts of Sonoma County.

Temperatures are expected to reach 105 degrees Tuesday, while Sonoma and Napa counties are under a heat advisory that is expected to last through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, there will be some relief Wednesday as temperatures will peak in the 90s.

Santa Rosa announced Monday afternoon that the Finley Community Center will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for anyone looking to escape the heat.

The center is located at 2060 W. College Ave.

An additional cooling center will be available in Cloverdale on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cloverdale Regional Library, 401 N. Cloverdale Blvd.

Also in Cloverdale, residents can get relief at the senior center, 311 N. Main St., through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additionally, Sonoma County announced Monday evening that it would open cooling centers at the Guerneville Library, the Geyserville Park & ​​Ride property and a yet-to-be-determined location in Sonoma Valley.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. announced this week that it would shut off power to customers in Napa and Sonoma counties due to increased fire danger.

The utility reported that this is expected to affect more than 400 customers on Monday and Tuesday.
