Turkish influencer known for solo wedding dies at 29 after fall

Turkish influencer Kübra Aykut, who went viral with her “wedding without a groom” video, died on September 23 at the age of 29 after falling from several floors of an apartment complex in Istanbul, according to local news outlets.

According to Türkiye Today’s reporting, authorities are investigating the tragic death and trying to determine whether it was an accident or suicide. Some reports claim that Aykut left a note describing her personal problems before falling from the fifth floor of the building.

Fans and followers of the social media star have expressed their shock and sadness at the news in the comments of her recent videos. Her most recent TikTok video is from September 7th, and she last posted to Instagram on September 20th.

Aykut’s content received widespread attention across all platforms. At the time of her death, she had over 24,600 subscribers on YouTube, 226,000 followers on Instagram, and 1 million followers on TikTok.

Wixir Creative, the Turkish social media agency that represented Aykut, posted three Instagram tributes to her following news of her death. One post included a black and white photo of the late TikToker, who was reportedly 29 at the time of her death, with a heartfelt caption in Turkish.

“Our pride, our life, our blood, our joy are part of our family,” reads an English translation of Wixir’s Instagram tribute. “We will never forget you, we will always wait for you to suddenly walk through this door.”

Her solo wedding video from December 2023 – titled “I married myself!” When translated into English, footage from her “wedding” was shown, where the influencer danced in a white ball gown alongside her loved ones in attendance.

In the description of the 19-minute YouTube video, written in Turkish, Aykut shared her reasons for hosting the unique party.

“Since I do not see anyone as worthy, I have decided to get married on my own and have taken measures to make this possible,” reads the English translation of her statement. “I had a wonderful wedding with my friends. We had a lot of fun, I hope you had fun too.”
