The Lakers’ Bronny James Summer League jersey sells for a huge amount at auction

The jersey Bronny James wore in his summer NBA debut recently sold for $38,400 at Sotheby’s Summer League Selects auction. The total was almost four times the pre-auction estimate.

The 19-year-old was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Despite being selected in the second round, James was the star attraction of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. This is no surprise since he is the eldest son of LeBron James.

James’ rookie jersey almost sold better than his father’s at the Sotheby’s auction. A Lakers jersey that the veteran wore in a game against the Sacramento Kings on November 15, 2023 sold for $42,000. James’ debut Summer League jersey cost just $3,600 less than his father’s.

The No. 1 draft pick, Zaccharie Risacher, did not receive such a high bid for his rookie jersey. The Athletic reported that the Atlanta Hawks jersey sold for $3,360.

Reed Sheppard, the third overall pick in the 2024 draft class, had placed a higher bid on his jersey. Sheppard’s Houston Rockets Summer League jersey sold for $15,600.

Although James wasn’t selected in the first round, he is a high-quality player because of his father. James and his father will be the first father-son duo in NBA history to play together.

As fans eagerly wait to witness history at Crypto.com Arena, Lakers head coach JJ Redick said no plans have been solidified for the father-son debut.

“We’ve obviously talked about it as a team and gone into some details about what that might look like,” Redick told ESPN. “But we haven’t committed to anything. And of course there is a discussion when we are all together, including with Bronny and LeBron. You should be part of this discussion too.”

“I don’t look at it as a challenge,” Redick added. “It is unique compared to any other challenge of coaching a player or a relationship. Bronny, I feel very lucky to coach him because he’s young and hungry and he has a lot of innate skills that we can really develop.” Really good NBA player. Furthermore, he is a fantastic boy who has the right spirit and energy every day.

The biggest question for the Lakers is how they plan to beat the best in the Western Conference this season.
