Newcastle 1-1 Man City: Fan views

We asked for your opinion after Saturday’s Premier League game between Newcastle and Manchester City.

Here are some of your comments:

Newcastle fans

Philip: Best performance of the season so far. The team showed the hard work and tenacity that was missing in some games. Onwards and upwards.

Richard: Most Toon fans today expected them to hide, even if they didn’t say it out loud. I thought we would draw and for once I was right. I expected a reaction to the game against Fulham and expected us to be better against City. City have had their injury problems, but so have we – Isak and Botman are out, remember. So it’s an achievement that you can build on.

Andrew: Fulham’s performance was an absolute hit. Every single player did their best and gave everything. If we maintain this level, we will only get better.

Moor: The best performance so far this season. Everyone played really well – a real team effort. We were definitely missing a prominent striker today, but every player on the park seemed to have had a chance today. Anthony Gordon looks strong and our midfield rose to the challenge today. Great job, well done guys!

Man City fans

Phil: Nick Pope saved the day with an incredible stop as City almost took victory. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are always strong opponents, especially at home, and a point can be invaluable at the end of a long season.

Neil: Walker has cost us a goal in each of the last three games. It’s time for him to rest and perhaps be replaced by a more experienced full-back who has the game presence to recognize when someone is behind him rather than to put the opposition onside.

Martin: In such a tight league, where other teams have caught up with City, lost points are damaging. What is concerning is the ease with which other teams can score. Only twice without conceding a goal all season. We don’t have a rock-solid defense or if we do, they aren’t focused enough. We also cannot afford to miss opportunities. More clinical please.

Alan: Shortly after Arsenal it was a tough game but they held their own and again had to deal with defensive tactics and sharp tackling. The penalty was “shot” by Gordon and poor Haaland was overwhelmed by a compact defense. The referee had a bad game, allowed some fouls and was picky at times. The best player was Gvardiol while Newcastle was their goalkeeper.
