Cleveland Guardians score against Houston Astros today

CLEVELAND – Jose Ramirez has a chance to post his second-ever 40/40/40 season, and his pursuit of that feat continues Saturday night against the Houston Astros.

Ramirez could become the seventh player with a 40/40 season if he can hit two more home runs in the Guardians’ final two games. If he also hits two doubles, he will join Alfonso Soriano (2006) as the only players with at least 40 home runs, 40 steals and 40 doubles in a single year.

In Friday night’s loss to the Astros, Ramirez hit two balls to the warning track, resulting in loud outs.

The Guardians lost Saturday’s game 4-3 to the Astros to advance to Sunday’s regular-season finale.

With Ramirez scoring the game-winning run at third, Lane Thomas hit a groundball up the middle. Ramirez started, but Ryan Pressly grabbed the ball on the mound and Ramirez was eventually subbed out for the second hit out of the inning. Thomas ended up at second base.

Andres Gimenez then threw a groundout to end the inning.

Jose Ramirez hits doubles No. 39; Astros lead guards

In the bottom of the eighth, with the rain falling slightly heavier and Ryan Pressly on the mound, Ramirez hit a double into the right-center gap, his 39th double of the season.

He now has a home run and a double under 40 in every category. He’s also now the potential tie-breaker at second base with no one out.

Earlier, Ramirez had an eventful at-bat in which he rested a ball on his shin and then accidentally threw his bat when it slipped out of his hands.

Jose Ramirez let one go, but his third inning at bat ended with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored a run but left his home run total at 39. His hunt for 40/40 continues. He should have 2-3 more at-bats tonight.

Ben fights lively, the Astros attack with 3 runs in the second inning

Ben Lively really struggled to find the strike zone and his defense didn’t help him either.

With two runners already on, Lively was called for an autoball with the score at 3-0, loading the bases. He then walked Jon Singleton to score a run.

With two outs, Zach Dezenzo – who had an RBI single in the first – hit a routine ground ball to stop Brayan Rocchio, but his throw to first base was fairly short and Kyle Manzardo couldn’t get it at first, allowing two more Runs to score, giving the Astros a 4-2 lead.

Lively has 58 pitches after just two innings.

Jose Ramirez is now just one home run away from a 40-40 season.

In the bottom of the first inning, facing Justin Verlander, Ramirez drilled a two-run shot over the right-field wall for home run No. 39 of his season. He just needs one more, and if he adds two doubles he would have a 40-40-40 season.

Astros take an early lead against Guardians

The Astros took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Ben Lively, but it was almost a much lopsided number.

Already with a one-run home, the Astros loaded the bases with two outs and Mauricio Dubon was ready to bat. Dubon drilled a ball over right field that flew just a few feet into the foul while narrowly missing a grand slam. He then hit a flyout to right field and ended the inning with just one run on the board.
