City offers free tours of the Waste Resource Innovation Center

The open house is scheduled for October 5th, with tours every 30 minutes; Advance registration required

Have you ever wondered what happens to trash after it’s picked up from the curb? This is your opportunity to see for yourself.

To mark Circular Economy Month, city officials are hosting an open house at the Waste Resource Innovation Center on Dunlop Drive on Oct. 5, offering free tours every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m

People will have the opportunity to learn how waste is processed and diverted from landfill through recycling and organics.

“During the open day, you will have the opportunity to meet the people who work behind the scenes in waste management around Guelph, tour the facility, see the collection vehicles and equipment, and learn about various environmental programs run by the city,” explains a post posted on the city website.

Prior registration is required. To book a tour time, click here.

The tours are limited to 25 people each. Participants must be at least 10 years old and wear closed shoes. Personal protective equipment will be provided.

Tour participants should arrive at the center 15 minutes before their scheduled time.

In addition to the tours, the Guelph Tool Library collects working laptops and hard-to-recycle items as part of its circular computing project.
